What features does E61 lack?
Hi everyone! I was wondering what features or software that E61 lacks people would like to have.
Personally what I find lacking is things related to the SMS that I’m used to from Sony Erikson phones, such as the Chat feature, which makes more sense than having outgoing and incoming messages in separate folders, and unsorted by user.
A camera, for one..

Usability? Style? Stability?

* a camera, a radio. still carry my n70 to have both of those.
* word processor cannot produce text files suitable for html or python which is beyond annoying.
* spreadsheet cannot copy formula correctly
* would love a tab button on the keyboard or for it to be available in the text editor special character selection.
* would prefer a cursor pad than the joystick for directional control
* the ability to upgrade the phone should be in the hands of the user and not the phone company.
* the unit should ship with a game or two other than golf
* the unit should ship with a database of some sort. even a flat file database would be suitable for most.
* the unit should ship with the global search builtin.
* the calendar application should have some way of purging data more than x months old were x is given by the user.
* notes should be able to sort in alphabetical order not chronological order
* and while playing a rpg today and taking notes on the e61 i thought it would be really useful and possible for it to have a small image editor. like a flowchart program were you could drag and drop standard symbols to make simple diagrams or flowcharts. no need to edit the image other than to type and place text or symbols on a page. really niche but many people think ideas in a graphical manner and a simple program to do this could help. save carrying pen and paper.
for all that it’s probably still the best phone out there! says a lot for the competition!

First and foremost: A scroll wheel, for heaven’s sake!
Then: Better PIM applications, better E-Mail implementation (compare iPhone).
An FM radio would be nice.
But at the end of the day, the stability, reliability, battery life and phone quality outweighs most if not all other smartphone with these features.

Ability to set a preferred connection list for Internet connection - so I could say, try and connect in the following order:
1. Home wireless LAN
2. Office wireless LAN
3. Provider GSM

What I find weird is the fact that when you press the Chr button, you only get a tiny limited subset of all the characters that the font contains. Come on Nokia, phones 5 times as cheap let you type, e.g., Greek characters.

I have half a dozen SIP providers in my E61, and would very much like to easily select which to use when making an internet call

I think it would be great to have good search feature in E61. Something like press Ctrl F and type the word or number or whatever. It lacks the thing like this to get information in phone in a blink of the eye.

I my opinon there is no more features needed for standard software. As a business phone I don’t see using the camera or radio at all.
Its the perfect phone for the business world, and it was meant to be like that.

FM radio would be good…but however, ppl who need it on the E61 can use headsets that have built in FM radio..
I dont need a camera cos its not allowed at my workplace…
The A2DP feature that allows stereo music on stereo bluetooth headphones….is missing here…. a shame on a phone that pumps out quality music when connected through wired headphones…
I think if this feature is enabled in the next firmware then Nokia HS-12W would make a gr8 pair with Nokia E61

I’m with Irix - for the intended use (business) - this phone is light years ahead of the competition, save for maybe blackberry. A scroll wheel *would* have been nice, and I agree that the little joystick is a bit cumbersome.
Take this phone, add in your FM radio, your scroll wheel, and a camera, and my guess is the size would no longer be so appealing. Just a guess.

Needs predictive text / spellcheck.
DAB radio please!
Should be able to transfer the sat-nav app to a larger memory card.
Should have a carry case that does not accidently depress keys. Maybe the case should shutdown the keyboard.

I am looking for a program managing my profiles switching between different profiles depending of time of day. Don’t want all the allerts at night and don’t want to forget to to put it back on in the morning.

Radio — Use Podcast availiable from Nokia web site.
This allows you to download a radio program and listen to it when you have time, but you have to buy a large memory card

e61 lacks:
(1) Built in PDF reader like 6681 (needs to be separately installed)
(2) nice d-pad; joystick is irritating on the thumb and makes playing games a pain
(3) nice video/movie player
.. more too…
but all in all, e61 is a great gizmo… I love it!!!

Basic improvements to alerting:
- Vibrate then ring - would vibrate for a few seconds and then ring if not answered
- Ascending ring doesn’t ascen loud enough fast enough. it takes 15-20 seconds to reach a lound volume.
- When your answer a call and you’re in another app there’s no context menu for the call. If you want to switch to speakerphone, you have to exit the app to go back to the standby screen to access the call options.

Coming from a treo, am missing the following:
- chat mode in sms. I tried some chat applications but they dont work the same
- ability to cut and paste anywhere. Anything highlighted in a treo may be cut/copied. Like if you want to copy something from a webpage, you cant
- things copied to the clipboard arent always pasted.
- recent sms recipient list
- i use datebk6 in the treo so i find the calendar application of the e61 very limited. For 1 you cant set categories for each entry to differntiate schedules.
- lack of available symbols.
- limited options per application. Like in sms, there are only 2 options in terms of display.
- reminder app for missed calls or unread messages - motorola had this integrated years ago
there’s a lot more. But its still a powerful tool. I use it for connectivity, something treo should improve on.
