Hi there. Anyone who can guide me on how to set up my E61 to make cheap calls? I am not subscribed to 3G
1) How do i make use of GPRS to make cheap calls? Any software i have to download to my phone?
2) If I connect my E61 to my internet enabled PC @ bandwidth of approx 42kbps through the data cable, how do I make use of my E61 to make calls using the internet and not GPRS?

I have regularly run into the problem when trying to use the web browser (less often with “native” web, very regularly with Opera Mini) and the error message states “close some applications and try again”. I know this sounds simple, but I can find no way to close an application to solve this problem.

Truphone brings VoIP to mobile phones. They have a downloadable setup wizard and software for E-series Nokia phones (you download it using your wifi connection) along with very detailed installation instructions on their website. I made several short calls and four long duration calls atleast 60 minutes long each, the voice quality is amazing, with no latency or voice quality issues. Calling US/Canada is free for now (until Dec. 2006).
They also give out a real phone number (I got a Washington area code 306 even though I’m in Canada). UK numbers are also available, but probably only assigned to UK/Europe residents? UK residents also get free calls to a lot of other countries too.
Incoming and outgoing have been working for me with no issues yet, apparently they use an RTP proxy to deal with NAT traversal issues.
I had a bit of trouble signing up but eventually it worked. While the signup was not working I e-mailed support and got a prompt reply with an offer to setup the account manually.
I also had a bit of trouble with setting up an AP with the wizard, but it was easy enough to set it manually.
According to their website N series support is coming soon too.

TiVi is SIP client for many handhald devices, easy to setup and easy to use. Like in Skype you could call phone to phone for free over the internet, using Wi-Fi or even EGPRS (EDGE). You could call to regular phones via their service as well. Voice mail box avaliable, text chat. Take a look at there web site: http://www.tivi.com
Client for E61: http://www.tivi.com/mobile/tivi_3rd_0.122a.sisx?E61

This post will be to try to gather information to resolve bluetooth pairing problem many people are having with BMW hands-free voice activated bluetooh system. There has been many attempts to pair the e61 nokia with various models of bmw cars, usually the newer models (post 2003) which have the bluetooth system. A few instances of success exist so we’ll try to see if their success can be replicated in the other 99% of cases who can’t seem to successfully connect their nokia e61 with their bmw.
i have found a few resources and threads online and i will try to post them here:
Nokia Forum
X5 World
Bluetooth BMW
please post any discussions or solutions or resources you find regarding this specific issue here…

One thing that annoys me about the e61 is that the power switch is quite sensitive. I’ve tried two different holsters and in both of them the power is often shut down just from movement. Does anyone know of a way to disable the power off (in software) or better yet to rearrange the order of the menu that one gets when pressing the power switch momentarily? My thought is that if I can do this then just the profile will be reset if the power button is bumped.

Hi.
I just read few comments on E-series themes. And decided to share light theme I made.
It is also light in weight not only in color. Size is about 10KB. I think it is positive because of RAM consupmtion.

I changed text colors to Blue & Orange, Battery & Signal indicators, digital clock.
You can get it here.
It’s ZIP containing versions for E61 (320*240) and other 3rd Ed (352*416).
Please leave a comment.
Enjoy!

I have an e61 with Smartroaming and Goodlink running on it. Most of the time it works flawlessly. However in certain environments (airports and airport lounges that offer public WiFi) the phone continuously reboots. This has happened in many different airports in the US, Asia, and Europe. The only thing I can think of is that it is related to the wireless environment.
Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas how to correct it?

Great link for Outlook users here to sync their google & outlook calenders to E61:
http://www.grinn.net/blog/dev/2006/04/incorporate-google-calendar-into.html
Seamless linking of Google calendar items to outlook and thereby synced via Bluetooth (or cable etc) to E61, or any Symbian bluetooth phone that supports Outlook Calendar items..
Just installed it and it works a treat.. “google” within Google calender for public holidays for your region etc and sync to Outlook. Very neat!
