The silly thing on Nokia's part is that there is a very simple alternative that they could support: namely, to "leave mail on server" -- in which case it could be downloaded again by Outlook or anything else. If they were willing to support this, there wouldn't be much of a need for synchronizing e-mail messages on the PC.

So... does anyone know of a way to make the E61 leave the messages that it retrieves on the server? [This works automatically on gmail and IMAP, but not on POP3]

A proper sync of messages on the PC would, of course, allow the sync'ing of various additional folders, syncing the deletion of messages, priority and reminder flags on messages, etc.

I thought E61 would sync with Outlook Mail, but as we all found, it will not. For a guy like me who is on a big corporate network using MS Exchange, but not allowed to use wireless due to corporate security policy, I thought it was the end of it. But after reading thru different functionality and other connectivity features, I learned that IP Passthrough is available for use on E61. IP passthrough will allow you to connect your E61 to your network through your computer. It will bridge the E61 connection to the network. So, I thought, if I am not allowed to use wireless, but then again I can still connect my E61 to the network using IP Passthrough, then I can get my E61 to connect to our Exchange 2003 server. It worked, I can now sync my Mail for Exchange on E61 using IP Passthrough.

The Nokia E61 can hardly be geared for those of us who have a small business, why cant you Sync Outlook emails? Not everyone needs to have an exchange server running at home and without this the E61 can NOT sync emails. This is really very disappointing. I'm thinking of handing this back and getting a phone that actually does 'Sync with Outlook 2003'

Agreed. Looked into it and it seems an odd option especially as PC Suite syncs contacts and calendar.. Any others out there with an email sync solution?
