“Out of Memory” and closing applications
I have regularly run into the problem when trying to use the web browser (less often with “native” web, very regularly with Opera Mini) and the error message states “close some applications and try again”. I know this sounds simple, but I can find no way to close an application to solve this problem.
Press and Hold Menu, select the open app and press the Delete / Backspace key to close the app

Hold the ‘application’ button for a few moments (the one to the left of the joystick) until you see a list of the open applications. If you only have standby and the browser you are out of luck, otherwise you have a list of apps to switch to and close… Not that that have actually getting it to work better for me, but that’s the theory at least. To me, it’s more like an old mac: any error message generally means reboot to get back to normal functionality.

I thought that when you get the “memory full” message, Symbian OS has already closed one or many applications that are running in the background to free some more memory?
Otherwise, I regularly close the programs running in the background simply by keeping the menu button pressed for a while to popup the list of the running programs, then for every program I want to close, select it in the popup list and press the “backspace” key on the keyboard. No need to activate the application to the foreground first, no need for an additional tool (though I also have TaskMan installed and use it from time to time), you can “kill” it with a single key press from this list. Well, almost, there’s a confirmation dialog requiring you to press the left contectual key as well for every program you close…

Here is another option to close all open applications when your E61 is really stuck (i.e. you cannot access the list of open applications through the menu button):
* Click on the power button
* Scroll down to the “Remove mem. card” option
* Select it and click “Yes” and then “Ok”

Hi,
Take a look at the software that you’re running and try and spot any suspect leaks. For example, I find that whenever I use the ‘3 Mail’ software on my E61, after a few days I have hardly any memory left and I need a reboot so I know that’s the root cause of my problems.
Another possible rogue is Aqua Calander which has improved significantly with the latest releases, but I’m still paranoid.
