iSync your Nokia e61 with Mac

Nokia E61 iSync works

If you want to Sync your Address Book and iCal on your Mac with Nokia e61 you will need to install this iSync plugin for E61 Say thank you to MacTomster.

How to install this plugin:

1. Unzip.
2. Copy “Yellow file” to “Red folder”.

That’s it. The Red folder is a symbolic folder of your iSync directory. Now you can pair via Bluetooth your E61 & Mac.

  2. V,

You should be running latest version of Mac OS X 10.4.7 with iSync ver. Version 2.3.

You may use “Software Update” on your Mac to update to the latest release. If you do running the latest version comeback and will try to figure out why it is not working for you.

  6. I did change the plist xml file myself to get the e61 synced and it worked fine…
…but than came the mac os update and iSync does not connect to the phone anymore.

    (Running 10.4.7 on a PB G4)

    Any advice would be great.

  7. All,

I have my E61 synced with a 10.4.7 Macbook Pro, a 10.4.7 Intel iMac and 10.4.7 Powerbook and I have not downloaded anything. I simply navigated to:

    iSync/Package Contents/Plugins/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/Plugins/PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/MetaClasses.plist

and changed the Nokia N70 Reference to E61 wherever it occurred and it syncs perfectly. I did it as an experiment, as 10.4.7 supports the N70 out of the box, and its a Symbian S60 Device. Its not v3 and I was a bit surprised to find the experiment works, but it does.

  9. About to receive my E61. I am counting on the ability to sync with iSync under 10.4.7 via Bluetooth on my iMac Core Duo. Really did not need this kind of device but the browser and wifi seem so nicely done. Hoping the reception and sound quality are are as good as my current Moto SLVR. I like the fact this phone has no camera.

Check out the post and discussion here for more information. I am using the plugin available here which I found out about here. [...]

  13. The plug-in finally worked for me. After doing what Pasha wrote right the top, I had to initiate bluetooth pairing from my iMac by clicking on top bluetooth logo found on the top right hand corner of the desktop screen. Next select “Setup Bluetooth device”. Once pairing done there, then I click on the iSync and get it to “Add Device”. Voila! my E61 icon appeared with a green dot on its left and the rest history.

    Thanks Pasha!

  16. when I scan devices for isync
my E62 is found but, isync states”
“this device is not supported by iSync”
and the it finds it again, and says
“iSync can not connect to this device”

for some reason I got the E61 to work
but have tried everything and it’s still
a “NO GO” for the E62.

    HELP!!!

  17. same here i have E62, no go

Victor | 8:38 am on the 17th of August, 2006

  18. I got my E62 to Sync with iSync.. The above plug in didn’t do it on its own, but you will still need it.. So after you install the macTomster plugin, open up a Terminal Window… in there cut and paste this:

    vi /Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/mactomster.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/MetaClasses.plist -c ‘g/E61/s//E62/g’ -c ‘wq’

All that does is open up the MetaClasses.plist file and replace E61 with E62 everywhere in the file. Now in my case, iSync worked.

If you want the icon to work, you should go to that same directory and move the e61 file to e62…. .

I tried to follow the procedure:
    1. Unzip.
    2. Copy “Yellow file” to “Red folder”.
I downloaded mactomster_iSync-Plugin_2.5.zip and unzipped it, resulting in file mactomster_iSync-Plugin_2.5.
Please, what does Step 2 mean and involve ? I cannot detect any “yellow file” or “red folder”. Please help !

  32. Thanks all, All the above advice works well. Note that initially I wasnt copying the “vi” part of the script that globally searches and replaces /g/s//s etc so hopefully that helps some folks. also, here is the copy and paste text without the hex numbers in the above example:

    vi /Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/mactomster.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/MetaClasses.plist -c ‘g/E61/s//E62/g’ -c ‘wq’

Last but not least, After all this sucess, your E61 or e62 will not sync if you have Good Messaging installed – SyncMl error on the phone, so if anyone knows how to sync using isync or other while running Goodlink, that would be helpful

    Thanks

  40. Is there any way to also sync text files between the e61 and the Mac? I can transfer files from the Mac to the e61 using Blue Tooth, but then they wind up in the e61 message folders and there is no way to move them to the document tree outside of messages, and of course they do not sync. It sure would be nice to be able to do this. Without being able to sync files, I’m gonna have a hard time not ditching the e61 for an iPhone in June…

(BTW, Address book and iCal sync perfectly with the plugin — thanks, MacTomster!)

  41. Ok guys, I have the E61, i downloaded the MacTomster plugin. I copied the yellow folder into the red. The Macbook Pro was also paired with my E61. but when isync seraches it says my E61 is not supported. Fine

looking back at some of the blogs above i have few questions:
    1. after copying yellow folder into red what do i do? Shall i drag (red folder) to applications? or just close it and leave it alone?
    2. I did restart my Mac after step 2 above.

    3. Kalessin specified some editing but i dont know how to navigate to that string he mentioned.

All i need is to be able to sync with Entourage 2004 running under OSX 10.4.8, on MacBook Pro due core.
Please take my hand into this, i am newbie
    thanks
