E61+Asus WL500G = No Wifi?

Hi All,

After many weeks, I’ve got my E61. It’s a very nice phone, the joy stick wasn’t much problem, even though sometimes I missed my stylus from Jasjam. Anyway, I’ve got Asus WL500G wireless router and it’s been running ok with WPA/PSK and all the laptops on the network have no problem connecting to it once I configured with correct key.

Come E61 and got WPA authentication failed error message. After googling, it’s seems, known problem. So, I thought, well, try with open/shared and wep – didn’t work either – both with 64 and 128bit. I’m at a lost what to do, The only way to get emails, freely is my wifi as I don’t want to pay obscene data charges :p.

I’d like to know what wifi router other ppl are using with E61. Please share your config and experiences :)

  1. I have no issues accessing wifi at home (Linksys WRT54Gv5 running on custom DD-WRT firmware) or in the office (DLink 714P with latest stock firmware) with my v3.x firmware E61.

These are the settings in place on my home router (the Linksys) :

    wireless mode = ap
    wireless network mode = mixed
    wireless ssid broadcast = enabled
security mode = wpa2/pre-shared key mixed
    wpa algorithms = tkip aes

I have also changed some of the WLAN settings on my E61 (under Advanced Settings) :

    automatic config = disabled
    long retry limit = 6
    short retry limit = 8
    rts threshold = 2347
    tx power level = 100mW
    radio measurements = enabled
    power saving = disabled

Hope the info helps you in your quest.. :)

  2. I wonder how long you can stay with “power saving = disabled” ?????? Battery gets warm immediately.

  3. I’ve been using a Linksys WRT54GS running OpenWRT 1.0RC6.

I use WPA/WPA2 with both TKIP and AES enabled on the AP side. On the phone, I can only successfully connect if I allow the connection to use TKIP.

I have also been successful in connecting to a Cisco AP, 1200 series, using EAP-PEAP.

  4. Hi there,

I was having similar problems with my E61 for the longest time. It would connect to the WIFI only if there was no encryption. I recently updated the firmware and now it works great for me with the WPA. So you might want to give that a try.

  5. When I bought my E61 last summer, I had been using a Linksys WRT54G and could immediately connect over WPA. Since October, I’ve been using an AVM Fritz!Box Voice WLAN with no problems, either.

    Best regards,
    Jochen

  6. Possibilities:

IP-issues: set up your router to allow DHCP and accordingly set up your mobile phone to get ip and dns automatically.

MAC-issues: maybe you have a MAC Filter activated and the MAC adress of your phone isnt in the list of your router

  7. I have an E61 unbranded, running the last firmware version (3.0633.09.04 20-11-2006). The router is a WL500g with the RC6 release of OpenWRT, WPA2/PSK, with a DHCP server. No problem here. E61 also connects to a asterisk installation on the ASUS.

  8. Thank you all for the feed backs.
First I thought, I need a new A/P. Till I saw Pierluigi’s post, I’ll try to flash and see how it goes.
Matze, I’ve got MAC filter on, but I’ve already added my mac address on the list.

  9. How silly me. After posting the last post, I checked my mac address list and mac address for e61 wasn’t listed – though I was pretty sure I put it in n was still in my typed list.
So I added it again n after reboot – viola, it worked. Now I’m posting this from e61 via wl500g :D .

ps, I’ve posted something at the SIP post, please help me out :)
    thanks :)

  13. No problem with E61 and D-Link DSL-G624T with WPA/PSK, using wpa mode = preshared key, enabled TKIP encryption and DHCP.

  17. e61, wifi and openwrt: Try to install the ‘nas’ package (ipkg install nas) and reconfigure wpa/wpa2! Without nas wifi will not initialize probably on openwrt
