e61 new FirmWare 2.0618.06.05 confirmed.

The gossips were going round and round now it’s confirmed by this photo some German guy, I don’t know him has published this photo. So guys we need to go to nearest “Nokia Service Center” and do upgrade.
As I found by myself this bugs on my e61 with firmware 1.0610.04.04:
1. When downloading or uploading may files with a cable to e61 using flash-disk mode the phone hangs and reboots.
2. e61 can suddenly reboot during the day.
3. e61 VPN (not a bug but) solution to use you need Nokia VPN Gateway otherwise you unable to get VPN Polices…too bad.
4. more comming.
Btw, you can check your firmware with this code: “*#0000#”.
Where/how can I do this if I live in the US? My understanding is that stores in the US do not support the E61…
Joe | 7:30 pm on the 15th of August, 2006
Joe, try this link “Nokia Repair in USA”. If it won’t help try calling this number: 1-888-NOKIA-2U (1-888-665-4228) And ask “Where I can upgrade firmware fo my Nokia e61″ tell them you have problems with phone it hangs and stuff…They should tell you where nearest Nokia Service Center is.

What I don’t understand is why do we have to send the E61 to get a firmeware upgrade!!! What happen to Over The Air upgrade???
Alex | 9:21 am on the 15th of August, 2006
Pashas,
I agree with Alex. I used to use a Sharp Zaurus (Linux PDA) before and the way I’d upgrade the Firmware was to download the Firmware file to my PC, copy it to a CF card and then used some hotkeys to flash the ROM with the new Firmware.
Doesn’t Nokia use this approach? Finding a Nokia Service Center may be a hassel, besides sometimes they don’t support new phone models, etc.
Cheers,
Machani

Over the updates will be incuded in feature pack 1, dont know whether this is FP1 or not. hope so…
daniel sussex | 11:35 pm on the 15th of August, 2006
Nokia still goes with the concept of going to the store and upgrade or buy a new one.
David | 8:59 pm on the 15th of August, 2006
David, check this site:
http://www.nokia.co.uk/nokia/0,1522,,00.html?orig=/softwareupdate
Maybe they will add the support for the E series.

I’ve found this bugs with E61
- 2 letters are missing from ukrainian localzation
- “email button” sometimes does not work
- “voice button” sometimes does not wok
- sometimes while entering URL in he browser it uses phone language not english
- browser does not detect mime types correctly, often files being downloaded are displayed as plain text
- browser may crash when using GPRS to connect
- files send with bluetooth (inside “Incoming” SMS folder) cannot be saved or opened if file type is unknown by phone
- it’ not a bug, but I cannot shedule time when to enable phone profiles. It was good option in my old 7710. But E61 looks like does not have it.
- language cannot be changed from operation menu while entering text in some input boxes
- phone does not report to OS that it can be disconnected, when using E61 with Apple computer in file transfer mode. Sometimes I have corrupted data at flash-card because of this.

Chiffa,
you may switch between languages by holding “Shift + Chr” for 3 seconds.

Service Bulletin is here, doesn’t mention anything about SIP as was hoping it would support NAT Traversal

Stephen, do you have a link or can share file of this firmware?
Pasha | 3:54 pm on the 15th of August, 2006
There is the known bag in the firmware installed on my E61. This is the bug that the software developer can check: when your program try draw the text in Canvas using standard functions - you see on the screen some kind of thin line instead of the text string. It seems that the phone try to type 2 pixels height letters.

the firmware provided above is for EMEA only, please note that, as some of us has APAC models and there no suitable variants yet.

Hi,
I downloaded all the files from Rapid, but when i run setup on the new firmware i get the following error “This update requires a previous version”. Can anyone help me install it please.
Sam | 4:13 pm on the 15th of August, 2006
You need to uninstall the old one first and then run the install again, IT wont ask you for another version.

Hey, Have any of you firmware updaters done this on a vodafone-branded E61?
Have tried to update via the Nokia on-line firmware update, but this tells me the update is unavailable for my phone (I have an older firmware on this UK-purchased phone…)
Thanks in advance!

Hi all, I’m also looking to download the latest firmware for my e61. Can someone provide a link I can download from w/o going to Rapidshare? I would also need the guides etc. for doing this upgrade. My phone looks like a APAC phone hence the normal updater tool from Nokia wuold not work at this time. Appreciate all the help I can get on this as calling Nokia in Canada, US and even Philiphines was a total waste of time and money.
Thanks in advance!

I had E61 with an older firmware and I tried configuring VOIP (SIP) on it but was not able to register dues to NAT issues. SO in hope of getting success, I just upgraded to the latest firmware 3.0633.09.04. At home, I have Netgear WLAN with WEP. I tried with couple of VOIP services including VIOPTalk and BrainTel. Still no success. I am not been able to get regsiter successfully to there VOIP services. Any help is appreciated.
Salman | 11:32 am on the 15th of August, 2006
Hi Salman, I’ve never been able to get the E61 to work with VoIP, but it could be down to my firmware. I just cannot get the Nokia Updater to ’see’ my E61, even when Nokia PC suite sees it no problem.
With regard to VoIP, try looking at Truphone.com, who actually say their service will work with the E61.
I’ll be interested to see how you get on.
