Connect to gprs internet using nokia e61 on mac
Some of you guys asked me how to connect your Mac to internet GPRS using your Nokia E61, let me show you how:
On your Nokia E61 phone goto:
“Menu>Tools>Settings>Connection>Packet data” in Access point enter your APN address for internet access,
for example mine look like this “internet.beeline.ru”:

1. Download this “Nokia E61 modem script”. Unzip it and copy script into ‘Macintosh HD/Library/Modem Scripts’.
2. Enable Bluetooth Connection on your Nokia E61.
2a. Click “Set up Bluetooth device” on your Bluetooth bar and select “Mobile Phone” as a device type and follow the instructions when it goes to choose internet connection select “GPRS”.

2b When it asks for username and password enter your cellphone internet provider username & password.

2c. Important to enter “*99#” in GPRS CID String.
2d. In “Modem Script” choose “Nokia E61 (NokMe)” script.
Now you’re done and ready to try. Open “Internet Connect” program and click connect.

Then click connect and you should be connected, thats it.
P.S. Note that if data transfer activated and your phone is already connected to internet you should disconnect on phone to be able to connect using your Mac.
Thanks a lot. It worked perfectly. I was wondering where to find the modem script.
One final thing. When I use the Web application on the phone it automatically connects using GPRS even where a Wireless Lan is present. In contrast, when I use the mail app it asks which connection to use. How can I ensure that it does the same with the Web application.
Thanks,

Larry it’s easy. Goto Web Browser > Options > Settings > Access Point > select “Always Ask”.
But I recomend you using “SmartRoaming” this little program automatically selects connection depending on where you are very useful!
You may read about this one in Topic “Applications Installed on my E61″.

I can’t get over this site. Amazing amount of great info! Is it possible to connect the E61 to a powerbook via firewire or USB2 instead of bluetooth? Thanks.

Thanks for all the great info on your site! I tried the e61 settings for the mac, but I am not sure if cingular has a user name and password. Would I have to set one up through cingular? It goes through the authenticating then it just disconnects.
Thanks

Hi,
The E61 modem script worked with my e70 and mac tige and tmobil-us. Thanks.
I looked at the script and it starts with:
serreset 57600, 0, 8, 1
is that mean, the max speed is 56K/s? Will that slow your connection when you are on Edge network connection which could be 128k/s?
Thanks,
Endre

Hi, I tried to unzip the Nokia-Script-download with two unzip-programms (Zipit and Stuffit Expander) and both are not able to manage the file. I tried to put the Script in the Modem Script folder - but I never could choose “Nokia e61″ when I wanted to configure the bluetooth connection settings. Can you help me with that problem? Thanks!

Паша, спасибо.
Но я выбрал первую галочку “Dial a specific access number for your Internet Service Provider” и заработало.

I just installed the modem script, configured the E61 and my MacBook Pro (for T-Mo in the US) and it worked perfectly the first time. Thanks!

Wow, thanks a lot. I found this link VIA macosxhints.com
I renamed the file just to NOKIAE62 placed it in /Library/Modem Scripts and the reset up my device an enabled using it as a modem. Thanks a lot for doing all this, my E62 running great.
I am presently successfully posting this from my Powerbook 1.5 G4 running 10.4.8 my browser is Firefox 2.0 and I am using my Cingular Wireless E62 cell phone that is on the charger 20′ away as my modem to roam around and try out the speed. BTW 82kbs down and 51kbs up.
I also have successfully synced the E62 with Entourage VIA Address Book & Ical. So technology and user support has paid off!
Thanks for this great site and tip!

Has anyone tried using the E61 as a Bluetooth or USB based EDGE/GPRS modem with Linux ( Ubuntu or Fedora Core 6 ). Would love to hear your thoughts if you have.

huss:
Use the program BOMArchiveHelper which is a very handy and fast extractor shipped as part of OS X. It is hidden down under some system services folder which I can’t remember, but you should be able to fine it.

Thanks carl worked great, yet iam still comming across a problem it asks to to check my ppp settings and i truly think its my access point iam not sure what its should be. Any body has any suggestions.
thanks
Huss | 11:03 am on the 17th of August, 2006
Those of you with problems on ppp settings. Yes. Its likely your Access point. You can simply do a google check for your provider’s access point by typing
cingular gprs APN, or M1 gprs APN, etc

Feb 16 14:15:37 MacBook kernel[0]: (360: aped)tfp: failed on 657:

And it ends there. A problem might be that my uplink provider, T-Mobile, uses a blank username and password. Any other T-Mobile users have success?

Pasha -
Umnitsa i molodtsA! Works perfectly, but it did take this particular idiot a while to understand that the script file to be downloaded is in fact NOT a .zip archive and the presented link is to its unzipped form already. Please change the instructions accordingly (remove “unzip it”).
